Ideas and Issues

We work hard to bring relevant speakers, performers, and authors to campus to give their insights on current events and their past experiences. Recently, we’ve hosted Scott McEwen (the author of American Sniper), the ASIA Project, and Ken Jennings (74-time winner of Jeopardy!). Stay tuned throughout the year for new speaker announcements!

For questions regarding Ideas & Issues or suggestions for speakers that we could bring, please contact Aline Irhamye (aline.n.irihamye.1@nd.edu).

Notre Dame Literary Festival

Ideas and Issues is excited to announce that the 2016 Notre Dame Literary Festival will be a three day event organized in conjunction with the Creative Writing Program, Welsh Family Hall, Notre Dames, and Spoken Word ND. Join us on Monday, April 4th for an engaging conversation with a SURPRISE Guest Author. Then join us again on Tuesday, April 5th for the Creative Writing's 4th Annual Wham! Bam! Poetry Slam. The festival will conclude on Thursday, April 7th with SUB and Welsh Family Hall's inaugural Human Library. Attendees will have the opportunity to loan human "books" and learn from the stories of these faculty, staff, and students in an effort to promote diversity and inclusion on campus. A $3 donation for the Human Library is greatly appreciated and all proceeds will go to the Reading for Life mentoring program.

Event Schedule:

Monday, April 4 - Author Lecture by Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Díaz, Debartolo 102 at 7 PM. No ticket required!

Tuesday, April 5 - Creative Writing's 4th Annual Wham! Bam! Poetry Slam, Snite Museum Annenberg Auditorium at 5:30 PM
